I hope you are all enjoying your weekend! Mine has been wonderful so far. I’m up in the mountains watching General Conference with my family.
I also found out our taping of the Nate Berkus show will be shown on Monday. So make sure you watch to see if you can get a glimpse of me. I’ll be on the front row wearing yellow.
Also….. I’m going to New York again!! This time for a girl’s trip with some good friends. We’ll be there for a few days and I want to hear from you.
If you’ve been there what do your recommend doing?
Having only been there twice (long way to go from Aus), once in 1988 and again in 2003, I did all the touristy things.
Don't know when you are going, but Open house New York is on Oct 9-10. So wish I could go http://www.ohny.org/weekend/
In 1988, the Statue of Liberty was one thing I did that I enjoyed. The view from the crown was amazing. I understand it was closed after 9/11 but has recently reopened. Worth it in my opinion.
Loved Central Park, could have spent days there. I went in Summer 2003, so the park was just splendid.
I'm a bit of a gallery and museum lover, so I say hit the MoMA, the Met, the Whitney and Guggenheim. I didn't see the Frick Collection, but have heard it is a must see. There's another I was told, after I went of course, that is a must see, but I can't remember. Will post if I can track it down.
Certain buildings also were on my agenda mainly for their art deco architecture. The Chrysler, the Empire State (awesome view on a clear day), The GE Building and on it goes.
I honestly, just loved wandering the city and finding myself in different neighbourhoods.

As a New Yorker, I highly recommend a visit to the High Line on the west side. The weather will be perfect for a stroll, and it gives you such a cool perspective of the city.
Depending on what time of week you're here, you'd probably also love the Brooklyn Flea, which is held in Fort Greene. There are some great dealers, as well as an amazing food truck turnout.
Also cool is taking the ferry to Governor's Island and renting a bike. There are some amazing views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Brooklyn and Manhattan, and it's just a lovely place to spend some time.
Food-wise, I'd try to do dim sum in Chinatown, or, at the very least, visit a noodle or ramen shop. Also, you can't get Italian-American food as delicious as Frankie's Spuntino's anywhere else in the world. (They have locations in Carroll Gardens and on the Lower East Side.)
Have fun!
oh conference weekend has been perfect 🙂
My husband daughter and I went to NY this last summer to visit family in buffalo and then we headed to NYC. I honestly would say that niagra falls, palmyra and everything north was just perfect and beautiful-but it sounds like your only going to the city.
I would see a play if I were you, we didnt get to because our daughter was with us.
Take a long stroll through central park, its beautiful.
Shop, hit up HandM and get some cute clothes for cheap. Its like forever twenty prices but better NY style.
If you go to the statue of liberty buy your tickets online and you wont have to wait in line for hours. We waited in line on just a normal day for probably four hours just for the fairy. Buy them online the day before you go and you can get in the fast line. It will save you a day of waiting.
Rockerfella Center
Time Square (at night, its so lite up and beautiful, during the day you can see all the nasty trash everywhere)
and try lots of new foods, we ate at small bakeries the whole time and it was amazing.
(only take the subway when traveling far its gross but easy to use. I was just super paranoid because I had a baby with me)
Dont forget to take lots of pictures!
Hotel Griffou is great. Here is a post I recently did on a quick girl's trip to NYC with the links to all the places we ate and drank:

Hopefully you'll have nicer weather. It was still hot when we went, even though it had been cool before that.
I'm glad to know when to look for you. I've been scanning the audiences for you! Enjoy NY! I lived in the Hamptons for a few years and loved living there! I miss it terribly. I miss being able to go into the city any old time! Have fun!
Ooh- fun! I recently moved from New York and miss a few things: 1. M and J Trimmings- all the ribbon, buttons and beads you could imagine. 2. Kate's Paperie- an amazing stationery store down in Soho though their best location is on 57th Street. 3. The Strand- a used bookstore that has 19 miles of bookshelves. And lastly, if you get a chance, go to brunch- the greatest meal New York has to offer! Enjoy the city!

I was born and raised in NY and miss it sooo much! When I go there to visit now one of my favorite things to do is go on the Staten Island ferry (just because). It's got great views of the skyline and you get to see Lady Liberty up close. And best of all, its free 🙂 Have fun on your trip!!!

Hi there, I just left these suggestions on Fabulous K's blog. [she's also headed to NYC soon] Sorry for the repeat, but I think they're durn good suggestions. I hope you do too:
Having lived in NYC for the last 14 years before moving overseas, I'd love to throw a couple of suggestions your way.
1. If you can catch anything at Lincoln Center, do. The Chagall windows alone are worth the visit. It'll be Opera Season, lucky you! Here's a calendar.
2. Head downtown. Soho, East Village, and Greenwich Village are not to be missed.
3. Eat at Supper. Great prices, wine, atmosphere, and above all great food. Supper 156 East 2nd Street
4. Go to the top floor of Bergdorf Goodman after a long day of sightseeing. Not too late though, it closes at 9. Check out the impeccably curated collection of home-wares that Bergdorf's has and then treat you and mom to a fabulous cocktail or glass of champagne at the cafe. It's so beautiful, it will blow your mind. I used to sit there with a good book and a strong martini and while away the afternoon on a rainy weekend. I think that's what I miss the most about NY. Pic here.
Enjoy.
