One hour consults have been a really interesting experience for me. I do a lot of them and it’s usually a pretty simple process. I always tell my clients to be very prepared with questions and I think that we squeeze as much as we can within the hour. At the consult I pretty much just say exactly what I think and I don’t hold back. They aren’t paying me to come up with a design they are paying me to give an opinion so that’s what I do. Sometimes I can tell people are a little overwhelmed because they feel they have SO much to do.
I recently got some feedback from a client, Jamie, that I visited last Spring. Here is what her bedroom looked like when I came out.
The room felt dark and it lacked personality. I recommend painting the walls, bringing in color and I advised her on some space planning solutions. I got this email from her last week.
“Back in the spring you came to my house and helped me with the layout and ideas for my bedroom remodel. Your ideas were incredibly helpful and I’m happy to say I finally finished – it was a long project but so worth it.
Thanks again for all of your help – I’m so happy with the way it turned out.”
Here it is now!
It’s so much better now. I think what the one hour consult really does for people is it gives them confidence and motivation to make changes in their home. They want someone to come in with a fresh set of eyes and give them an honest opinion on what needs to change in their homes. In her email Jamie also said, “Thanks again for all of your help – I don’t think I would have been brave enough to go where I really wanted without your help and advice.”
I’m happy to help you be brave!

Wow! What a difference! I love the mix of prints, which always makes a room look polished and put together vs. just thrown together. Love the finished product!
Fabulous! She did a great job with your suggestions!
Wow! That is a total 360! It doesn't even look like the same room. She did a great job with your advise.
What a beautiful makeover, she took your advice and ran with it! Great recommendations and great work on the part of your client.
I really love this transformation! The changes that she made drastically improve the space, but she was able to keep a lot of the same furniture. That really encourages me!
Wow! The room looks so much brighter and bigger. She did a wonderful job, and I'm sure it makes you feel so great to know you were able to help her feel "brave" and push her in the right direction. Love the mix of patterns and bright colors. So cheery!
Lovely make over. Love the linens.
Love this! Great job!
What color is she using on the walls, do you know?
She did a great job! The room looks great. Well done with the consult!

Definitely warmed up the room a lot with the bedding and drapes. Even though you painted the walls grey! Like how the details were left around the wall becuase they are a very good element to that space. Also, FAB the peacock pillow, especially with the orange bedding!
Lizbeth – the paint was color matched to Martha Stewart's Winter's Day (MSL269).
ahhh the difference is astounding! Good work, both of you!
I was NOT expecting the transformation to be that great. Not that you don't have great advice, but it went in such a different direction- love it! Wonderful consult and follow-through 🙂

The art of color, it makes brighter and happy rooms. Great consult, you both did a great job!
The fresh colours make all the difference in this space. Good work!
That is a 180 degree improvement! I especially like the fabric on the bed, the way the frames are arranged above the bed, and the moody blue/green art on the side wall.
Looks great! Yay for one hour consults. I don't always hear back on them, but this is great!
