I have been doing so much thinking lately about the topics of online bullying, being kind and overall just seeing the good in people and situations.
criticism and it has been pretty easy to brush off because it usually
involves a difference of opinion on how a space should look or have
been designed. I know that there are so many different styles and aesthetics that I can’t please everyone so these types of comment don’t bother me very much. This last year I came face to
face with attacks that were much more personal and they seemed to almost
cripple me. There is so much bad in this world that it can suffocate us
and become all consuming if we let it. We start to doubt ourselves and
the doubt stifles out all the good and all the wonderful things that
make us the people that we are. None of us are perfect. We are all
trying to do the best we can. I have always made an effort in my life to
cut people a break because I recognize that there is so much good in
people even if sometimes it’s harder to see.
Last week I watched this video and was overwhelmed with the optimism that exists in this world. I can never imagine how devastating something like losing a child would be and the strength that this mother portrays is so inspiring.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of you who read my blog. Without your positive comments and feedback I’m not sure if this blog would still exist. You are the reason that I love sharing design ideas, tips and new design reveals.
Thank you to all who see the good in me and this blog.

HI Kirsten, I'm a first time commenter on your blog. I just started blogging this past June, and I do find it a bit intimidating – putting yourself out there for all to see. But it's people like you that encouraged me to get started on something I always wanted to do, and was a bit afraid of. There will always be naysayers in life…and much criticism comes from flaws people have in their own hearts. Keep doing what you're doing and being who you are…I admire you and the work you do here!
I think it's easy to believe that there is more evil in this world than good, because usually that's all we hear about. We watch the news and there is rarely a good story. They are all bad. Bad sells. Bad gets viewers. Bad buys newspapers. I refuse to believe that evil wins out. I refuse to believe there is more bad than good in this world. People like you who post videos like this prove that the good is there and that this is what we need to concentrate on. What goes around comes around. Spread evil and you get evil. Spread good, love, joy, happiness, kindness, and that's what you get. Thanks for sharing.

I just don't get it, why do people have to go out of their way to say mean things? It can't possibly make them feel good.
You are probably the sweetest person I have ever met, I love your blog, and you are such a talented designer! So pretty much, you rock!
Thank you so much for sharing this…just what I needed to see this morning & especially during this Christmas season. Truly an amazing example of what is important in this world & the type of person I would like to strive to be.

I love this. Great comments too! It's hard to not let negativity bring us down but it's vital that we don't. Keep seeing and spreading the good!!
I am so sorry that you've had negativity. I have been blogging since 2008 and I've had so much positive response across the board but I distinctly remember the handful of negative moments with clarity. It is amazing what a negative word can do to a heart. I have friends who have actually closed down blogs because they couldn't get away from the negativity and it was heartbreaking to watch that happen to them. Good for you for sharing this and spreading some sweetness. You keep up the good work girly.
Thanks for posting Kirsten!! Love your blog – you are such a talented designer!
Thanks for sharing! I just love your blog. This was a great reminder to me to speak up more with the positive–such as making comments on blogs I love!
Kirsten, thanks for sharing this message. I love my daily visit to your blog, but even more, I love that you are my friend. You are truly one of the most geniune, fun, kind women I know and I am better because of your example. Love you!
I have always thought that the people that take the time to be negative to others, have unhappiness in their own lives. I don't get why people would go out of their way to say hurtful things and I know that it stays in our minds when they do. Keep on being you and doing what you're doing. You're an amazing inspiration!!
Keep on, keepin' on! Thanks for being you! xo
If there is one thing you radiate, on this blog and in person, it is positivity. Thanks for the reminder to 'choose good'.
Thank you for sharing 🙂
May the good always wins , I BELIEVE
Thank you for beeing you
lots of Love
Lulu
This is a great message. I am so saddened that people actually take the time to be negative about others. I like to think that we are all doing our best. I hate that some people can't be happy for others, but instead, they insult others. I think we should all be on the same team and encourage each other. But, like you said, we also need to remember that even though the negativity is sometimes the loudest, it is (hopefully) not usually the majority. Thanks for sharing!
I love your blog and perspective. You totally inspired me to decorate my home with light gray green wall and bright colorful accents – perfect for my northern climate home. Keep up the great work!
I love this post. It is just what I needed. LOVE. Thank you.
Hi Kirsten, I adore your blog and everything you showcase. You put your gifts and talents that God personally selected for you to work spreading beauty and creativity throughout the world, and inspiring others who want to do the same. Thank you for sharing your struggle. While not a blogger (maybe I'll try it one day!!), I do face what I perceive as criticism at times at work and even in social circles. Although it still stings, it helps to know that others face the same pain. Admittedly I was struggling with the very issue yesterday. But you have inspired me to put those harsh words aside and focus on just doing my best, which is all I can do. Good luck quieting that negative noise, focusing only on the positive and and keep up the great work! Reading your blog is a treat I look forward to nearly every day.
Hi Kirsten, it always makes me sad to hear about negative comments and meanness online. We all have our challenges in life and the last thing we need is someone trying to take our power away. That really is in it's essence what is happening. The negativity steals our confidence, makes us feel like frauds or less than…I can go on. I try to remind myself that those that make the comments are hurting in some way and it makes it easier for me to deal with it and protect myself. You have a beautiful blog! Thank you for featuring my Think Happy Thoughts art! Happy Holidays.
Kirsten, thank you for sharing such good and beauty in the world through your blog. You are a great example to me, as a new blogger and also LDS (me too). The video you shared is so powerful. I have often thought of those families that went through such a horrible tragedy. What a blessing Emily's family is helping others and doing such good things in the world, just like she would be doing.
I absolutely LOVE your blog. I love your taste. I try to copy it as much as possible. I really enjoy your blog. You are so talented. Thanks for making the blogger world so fun.
**hugs**

Thanks for sharing that video and the reminder that people are good. My daughter is 13 years old and is deaf, but uses cochlear implants to "hear". She has been going through a rough time because of "cyber bullying" and several of the comments poke fun of her not being able to hear. It makes me so angry and sad that kids that kids can get away with "saying" such mean things under the cloak of anonymity. I am sorry that people feel the need to make rude comments attacking you personally, just remember that they are the small people. Happy Holidays!
Girl, I know how you feel – it's HARD! Sticks and stones may break bones, but names leave bruises and scars that are hard to heal. I think you're great. I love your blog and your design aesthetic. My best piece of advice? Haters gonna hate, so make your haters your appreciators! 😉 Stay strong!
Oh Kirsten. It makes me so mad to hear that those nasty trolls are picking on you. Just know that you are a good person who's blog has been an inspiration for those of us design freaks.
I've been reading your blog for two years so I know what I'm talking about 🙂
