Kirsten was recently approached by her sister and brother-in-law to offer up some design advice on their kitchen remodel. After our team provided them with some guidance, Zane and Nicole Openshaw took the lead and transformed their small kitchen into a stunning and efficient space for their growing family. We absolutely love the results of this renovation!
Their previous kitchen lacked personality, and while it was functional, they desired additional features such as a custom hood, kitchen island, accent lighting, and custom cabinetry to suit their needs. One of the most impactful items we sourced was the Ilve range. The dark steel adds so much depth and contrast to the cabinetry which is painted in Benjamin Moore Pale Oak.
With the addition of a kitchen island, we were able to add in pendant lighting! The Bayli Pendants are a timeless touch and we love the scale of them in this petite kitchen.
On the stove we created a beautiful cooking accessory station complete with our Ring Top Salt & Pepper Mill Set, Measuring Cup Set sitting atop our Stonebridge Marble Cheese Board. Our English Copper Tea Pot is a classic touch that elevates the whole vignette. The Woodsen Pot is the perfect vessel for fresh herbs.
One of the most challenging parts when it came to decorating the kitchen were the corner shelves. While open shelves can be an excellent way to offset heavy upper cabinets, it’s essential to select functional and beautiful accessories that you’re happy to see every day. Fortunately, we had just the right items to bring these shelves to life!
We decided to bring in a some brass details with our Fruit Still Life and Brass Ice Bucket. The corner is a little dark so these items brighten up the area. When it comes to shelf accessorizing, we like to play with large objects to anchor the smaller items. Our Odin Jug takes up a lot of negative space and is also a great everyday-use item. We love accessorizing with plants, but when an area doesn’t get ample natural light we love to rely on our Faux Potted Fern.
Our Aurora rug is perfect for a kitchen. It’s soft underfoot, hides spills and dirt and is really easy to clean!
One of the big features that Zane & Nicole lost when the opened up their kitchen wall was their pantry. They decided to squeeze one in the corner. This space was previously unused so it was a great way to make use of a dead corner. They painted the stand alone pantry in Farrow and Ball Pigeon.
Some of our favorite canisters and baskets for kitchen storage are our Metal Lidded Canisters, Blair Canisters and our Cane Dough Bowls.
Zane is an excellent carpenter and he actually made this table himself! The curved corner bracket mimics the curve detailing on the backsplash and toe kick are on the cabinetry.
Our Large Cane Wrapped Vase is a beautiful centerpiece for the handmade table. We filled it with fuzzy willow branches to bring in a soft texture. Our Olive Grove Portrait layers perfectly with the hand plastered walls.
This sweet kitchen packs a big punch. We can’t believe how much it has transformed this family’s home and the way they gather and cook in this space.

The Openshaw Kitchen Remodel is truly impressive! The transformation from a cramped and outdated kitchen to a charming and functional space is remarkable. The use of natural light, the neutral color palette, and the incorporation of modern appliances and fixtures are all great design choices that make the space feel open and inviting. The before and after photos really showcase the dramatic change that was achieved through this remodel. It’s clear that a lot of thought and effort went into every detail of this project. Well done!
I love this remodel. So cozy and warm, yet modern. I do have a question regarding the marble sink apron – can you please tell me the proper name for this design, and also the sink insert you used ? I love this look.
