The room started out as a blank slate and just needed furniture and accessories to finish it up! With any kids space you face the same challenges. We wanted it to be whimsical and playful but also a space that could grow with them as they got older. We wanted it to be classic and sophisticated but not too stuffy and grown up. It needed to be a place that felt inviting to play in! We also needed it to be gender neutral since she has a boy and two girls. The family has lived in Hawaii and has a special place in their heart for the islands. We wanted to bring a subtle nautical and ocean feel in to the space. Here is the board that we came up with.
We knew we wanted to make the window seats feel special so we decided to make each one a reading nook with a library and lots of fun pillows. We were totally inspired by this reading nook that Caitlin designed.
We didn’t have the amazing built-ins that she had so we decided to go with floating bookshelves instead. Similar to this look:
We weren’t doing any window treatments in the space so we wanted to bring in some pattern with the window seat cushions.
We wanted to add some whimsical nautical art between the two window seats and we wanted it to be a statement piece so we chose the Go to it Laughing print from Minted.
The room turned out SO cute and I can’t wait to share it with you!
I’ll be posting the reveal pictures on Thursday so stay tuned! But in the meantime here’s a sneak peak to get you excited!
