If any of you are familiar with the typical “Utah Design Style” then you’ll know it involves a lot of red, iron, dark woods and faux paint. I was hoping this years’ parade of homes would have something a little different to offer. There weren’t many homes I could get excite about this year but there were a few homes that I thought had some fun design. Here are two of my favorites.

It's nice to see all that color. I love that blue subway tile!
I love when people are 'no fear' about their design style. You don't see homes like that very often. Here, most homes are very beiiiige. Haha. I really like the bed with all the pillows.
I am sad I have missed the parade two years in a row. Hopefully I will get to go again someday. I loved all the accent pillows. I really need to invest in new pillows for our house. I will need your help!
Your blog is fabulous! Love all of the amazing designs!
What is up with that Utah style? I see it in so many of the homes there and it's not cute. These ones are so much more fresh.
I was JUST talking about utah style the other day. funny. those top photos…definitely my favorite so far. I've only had time to do like 5 homes so far but yeah, definitely my favorite. so fresh. the grey headboard made me squeal out loud, for real. the builder of that home used to be my co-worker when i worked for arthur lewis fine homes. awesome guy!
I agree with the "utah style" comments!! So hating it!! I am from Utah and……seriously??? These photos are so a-typical for Utah and I love them! Yay, maybe there is some hope!! 🙂 Love your blog, by the way!!
kirsten, did you know the first house is ryan stice's parents??? my neighbors and best friends? their remodel is truly remarkable! i'll have to send this link on!
xo
I have lived in both Utah and California and have NEVER understood the cookie-cutter design style there in Utah. And what about the outside of the houses, they are all the same too. I don't think I've ever seen a modern style house in Utah. Ever. I think that is why I love living in L.A. now, just so much variety! And I am in love with that blue, green, and brown rug btw–anyone know where it's from? Love both these houses as well! So glad to know that others feel the same way as I do on Utah style!
We've been to 9 houses so far & saw that first house that you posted pictures from (loved it!)…were the 2nd half of pictures from one house? I haven't seen any of those…which house are they from?
Also wondering if anyone knows where that rug came from . . . it is gorgeous.
