Over a month ago one of my best friends Trisha found out that her husband had a serious medical issue and would be having brain surgery right at the same time she was moving to a new house. The amount of stress she was under was extremely overwhelming. My friends Erin, Lisa and I got together and decided to surprise her with a new master bedroom. We wanted her and her husband to have a peaceful and beautiful place to come home to and recover in.
We had a budget of $3,000 to work with and one week to do the entire room!! The pressure was on. We wanted to make the room perfect for her. Although $3,000 seems like a lot of money when you have literally nothing, are starting completely from scratch and have expensive taste it goes pretty fast. We practically shopped all over the state for great pieces for amazing prices. We also did some DIY projects to make the money stretch even further.
Here is what we were able to pull together!
I think the crown jewel of the room was this custom headboard made by Brian from Rocky Mountain Upholstery. We searched high and low and found a killer deal on fabric and then custom designed this headboard for Brian to make. It seriously is AMAZING.
We wanted to add a personal touch so we framed some of Trisha’s most special instagram pictures. We used basic ikea frames but added leftover grasscloth wallpaper to the mats to create a really expensive custom look.
The bedding is from Anthropologie and the fox pillows are available here. The striped bolster is from Pottery Barn.
We did all the DIY projects in this room ourselves to save Trisha money. Erin did all the sewing and Erin and Lisa did quite a bit of spray painting. They transformed a home depot chandelier by spray painting the silver finish gold. A basic Ikea floor mirror was also spray painted gold to give it a much more expensive look.
We were able to snag this wood tiled west elm dresser for less than $500 because the legs were different. We changed out the hardware too to have it fit better with the style of the room.
Lisa is a really talented artist and she created this abstract watercolor painting to hang above the dresser.
Trisha actually already had these chairs sitting in her garage that she had been planning on having reupholstered. We moved them up into her bedroom to create a seating area. I think the chairs look amazing here and if she ever wants to have them recovered she can. The gold side table was actually a lamp we found at Home Goods similar to this. We were able to remove the lamp portion of it so we could have just the beautiful table portion.
We found the geometric fabric at a local fabric store and Erin sewed the fabric into lumbar pillows with a coral piping. You can contact her for pricing on these pillows if you are interested.
Literally all Trisha had was the ruffle duvet, the mattress and these two chairs in her garage. Everything else you see in the room was found by us within the $3,000 budget.
Here are all the pieces we had to come up with for the room.
pillows / pillow inserts / gold side table / shams / bedskirt / custom headboard / bedframe / dresser / nightstands / lamps / curtains / dresser hardware / curtain rods / floor length mirror / gold spray paint / chandelier / custom painting / accessories

Absolutely stunning! What amazing friends she has. My favorite are the chairs as well as the headboard and wood pictures– did you buy the frames like that with the wood inside or did you make it like that?
Great question! I just added a description of how we did that to the post!

Gorgeous! I especially love the headboard and artwork!
I sawa another commenter inquired about it as well, and I too would love to know what type of carpet that is. I've been looking for a low profile option that looks like sisal/seagrass but is softer then that. Interested to hear what that is! Very charming room!
Hi – I was wondering where you got the fabric for the headboard from. I love the color!
