As a designer one of the most rewarding parts of a space is adding the details. The details are the items in a space that catch peoples eye and make a space feel thoughtful and personal. One of the most exciting items to source is lighting. The options for lighting are endless so it helps to have some go-to brands that you can trust. One of our favorites is Hudson Valley Lighting! They aren’t just beautiful but quality as well and as far as designer lighting they are very affordable!

In designing our European Country Kitchen for the One Room Challenge we knew we wanted to stick with a mostly transitional look that brought in some classic details and finishes. Here is the design board we created for the space showcasing the lighting we chose.
While we aren’t opposed to mixing finishes, we decided to stick with the aged brass finish for all of our lighting.

When the lights arrived we couldn’t wait to unpack them. They are even prettier in person and we can’t wait to show you how they look in the space!
The other big contender in the space is the furniture! Furniture is one of the most exciting things for us to source for a client. We know that the pieces we choose will be the items in the space that are used on a daily basis for our clients and their families. Furniture needs to be beautiful but also very functional. A kitchen doesn’t have a lot of furniture so each piece is important and needs to be carefully considered. In our remodel we need barstools, a dining table and dining chairs. They need to be beautiful, classic and durable for children. We were excited to partner with Overstock on these items because their selection is endless!
For the barstools we chose the Flint Rattan Seat Backless Counter Stool. We love them! The best thing is the little bit of cushion on the rattan seat. It’s so nice to get some comfort on a wood stool.
To go with our European feel we had our heart set on a bistro chair for the dining chairs. The problem is there are just so many good options! We ultimately narrowed it down to the Baxton stackable indoor/outdoor chairs and the Salcha Side Chairs. After looking at this inspiration picture we decided to go with the Baxton stackable chairs.

Look how perfect they are!
We source bistro chairs for clients all the time because they are so good with kids! They are indoor/outdoor which means you can wipe them off easily and even hose them down if you need.
To tie it all together we chose the Chatham Downs 88-Inch Rectangle Dining Table in Weathered Teak Finish.
There is something so classic about a solid wood table. We love how the natural knots and texture bring our space a note of country charm.
One of the other huge contenders in a Kitchen remodel is the backsplash tile! We are partnering with The Tile Shop and they have been so great to work with. We knew we wanted a white subway tile of some sort but we wanted it to have a little character. These are the samples we had The Tile Shop send.
Spring Time Off White Natural Brick /Bulevar White Ceramic Wall Tile / Imperial Bianco Gloss Subway / Annie Selke Artisanal White Ceramic Wall Tile
We loved the way the Annie Selke Artisanal White Ceramic Wall Tile looked in pictures and it was even prettier in person!
It has just the right amount of texture but it also doesn’t distract your eye too much. We want the tile in this space to work hand-in-hand with all of the other elements in the space. It’s going to be such a pretty backdrop!
