Today we wanted to talk about one of our favorite places to be, the garden. Kirsten, Co-Owner and Principle Designer at House of Jade Interiors, gathered together five simple tips and tricks that help her maximize the time she spends in her garden.
Tip #1 – Keep your gardening tools handy.
Keep your gardening tools handy, so you can always be prepared. To help keep your tools accessible, we recommend using our Potter’s Apron. With its four front pockets, you can store your gloves, shovel, twine, snips, or even earplugs to tune everything out and get present in the moment.
Tip #2 – Bring in pots to the garden to create visual interest and color.
Kirsten loves to treat her garden like she does her home by adding texture and decor. And garden pots are the perfect accessory! They elevate the eye by allowing you to place plants on different levels. Some pots can also bring in texture, like our rattan planter.
Tip #3: Succession plant and add in flowers. 💐
Don’t be afraid to add diversity to your vegetable garden by adding flowers. Flowers bring in many benefits, like bringing in beneficial insects to your garden or helping manage those pesky weeds. Kirsten recommends succession planting by starting with your main vegetable seeds and then tucking in flower seeds wherever you can. For example, in early Spring, she loves to plant sugar snap peas and sunflower seeds. When summer comes along, her peas will quickly die off due to the heat, but she will still have handfuls of Sunflowers popping up, adding happiness to her garden.
If you need help keeping all your seeds organized, be sure to check out our Seed Boxes.
Tip #4 – Keep herbs close to home for easy access when cooking
Have you ever heard of the phrase “out of sight, out of mind”? Well, that goes for your herbs too. When you keep your herb garden close to your kitchen, you will likely use them more often. Not only that, but they will also add so much beauty and create so many yummy smells in the air. To get the most out of your herb garden, Kirsten highly recommends our Collette Potting Bench.
Tip #5 – Store garden supplies inside and keep them organized
Kirsten recommends having one space to keep all of your gardening tools organized. She uses our Canvas Wall Organizer because there is enough storage space for all of her daily supplies. Her shovels, seeds, snips, and potting apron retire there after a gardening session. And the best part of all? It looks stunning in the home.
You have made it to the end! Thanks for spending time with us today. We hope you love gardening as much as we do.
