Last month we talked about our decision to install a new exterior door on the Krason home. We have been working closely with Therma-Tru to choose the perfect door for the colonial inspired home. We are excited to reveal the finished project with you today!
Let’s take a look back at what we started with. The old door was very basic. Not only did it lack personality but it was totally solid letting in no natural light.
In working directly with our local Therma Tru dealer we were able to identify a door that would give us the traditional feel we wanted while also including sidelites to let in more light. We chose the Smooth-Star 3 Panel with matching S751XGSL sidelites. Smooth-Star products are easily painted in any color that you choose. We decided to go with Benjamin Moore Blacktop. It’s the perfect soft black with subtle greenish blue undertones.
The process of renovating our entryway with a new door included hirig a contractor who could handle moving electrical, putting in a load bearing header, replacing sheetrock and trim, and coordinating the installation of the new door. Hiring a good, reputable contractor can help make the door installation process pretty painless. Once the door was installed it was professionally painted inside and out but you can also choose to have your new door pre-finished right from the factory.
Adding the sidelites has made such a difference in the entryway! “Now it’s much brighter, warm and welcoming!
If we take a look at the entryway before you can see how much it craved windows!
We love the feeling of walking into this entryway and being enveloped in light.
Not only is this door beautiful but we have such piece of mind knowing it’s a low maintenance, energy efficient and durable fiberglass door. We have harsh conditions in Utah so knowing that we don’t have to worry about this door rotting, warping or denting is amazing!
In addition to a new front entry door, we decided to replace our back patio doors with Therma-Tru as well. We chose two Smooth-Star 3/4 Lite 1 Panel Flush-Glazed doors. These doors are beautiful! They let in the perfect amount of light and we love the raised simulated divided lites. Again, they are fiberglass so they will stand up against our weather, kids and pets!
We couldn’t be more happy with they way everything turned out! If you have any questions about installing doors during a renovation process just let us know! It can be a daunting task but is very doable.

can you please tell where to get that indoor potted tree?
It’s from a local company, Cactus and Tropicals
Is that a faux olive tree? If so, would you mind sharing your source? Thanks.
This one is real. It’s from a local company, Cactus and Tropicals
I love it! It really looks perfect with your home’s exterior. Gorgeous property!
Beautiful job! What is the paint color of the interior near your back door (the light gray). It’s the exact color we are looking for 🙂
Thank you so much, Stephen! The color is First Star by Sherwin Williams.
Hello,
Thank you for your post! We are about to replace our front door on our 1890s farmhouse and would love to do the 2-over-2 like your back door for our front door (we have them as our back doors). Problem is that we live on a busier road and don’t want people to be able to see right through our home. Is the glass on your back door see through? If not, which did you purchase? We do not want the glass to look frosted and I do not want to put curtains over the windows, so want minimal possibilities for others to see in without ruining our view to see out. Thank you!
Absolutely love the front entrance of the Karson home. I’m wondering where you purchased the house number plaque! Thanks 🙂
Hi! Where is your front entry door handle from? Can you provide the name of it or link? It’s exactly what I’m looking for! So classy and beautiful!
Beautiful entryway! The front door definitely brightens everything up.
Was wondering about the flooring and stairs. Can you share what product it is? Stain colour? I’m just going through options for my own house reno and I love what you’ve done! I hope to hear back 😊
