Welcome to the Krason Basement Bathroom! We love so many things in this space and we are so excited to walk you through everything. First things first, let’s talk about what we wanted this space to feel like. The main goal was to have something that felt timeless and bold at the same time. With bathrooms it’s always nice to have a little fun especially in a basement.
The first thing we decided on for this bathroom was the floor tile. From the moment this bathroom was conceived it was destiny for it to have a gray and white diamond floor. It was nonnegotiable. Kirsten worked with the Tile Club to create the perfect pairing of Bianco Carrara honed marble and Thassos white honed marble. Thassos marble is the purest white marble and can be harder to find. When we got the sample of this one we knew we needed look no further.
In true House of Jade Interiors fashion we did a lot of finish mixing in here. We have brushed nickel fixtures, raw steel for the mirror and antique brass on the light fixtures, door knobs and towel hooks. We always feel like mixing metals adds so much interest to a space especially a small one. Don’t be afraid of mixing it up!
The sconces were an almost instant pick from Hudson Valley. They are always one of our go-to’s for lighting. We wanted something that felt substantial next to the delicate mirror. The Hudson Valley antique brass is also one of the best brass options you can find. We always trust it and it never disappoints. One of the details we love most about the Harper sconce is the textured metalwork in the middle of the fixture. The ribbed detail mimics the reeding on our bathroom vanity.
When it came to our plumbing fixtures we were very selective in the style we were looking for. We chose pieces that felt like they had some “heritage” in their aesthetic and fit in with the cottage style we love. We chose the Victorian Widespread Faucet with Cross Handles in brushed nickel from Signature Hardware. The cross handle detail is so sweet. We love the gooseneck faucet as well. Those little touches go a long way when it comes to pulling off the cottage style.
Everything gets pulled together perfectly with the 72″ Hawkins Mahogany Double Vanity with white Under mount Sinks from Signature Hardware. We chose a carrara marble countertop to pull in the floor tile. Marble is such a simple material that adds SO MUCH visual interest. The veining sweeps your eye in and elevates everything. It’s a classic for a reason! The vanity has ample storage and soft close hinges. It feels so custom even though it’s premade.
Let’s chat about the hardware shall we? All of the door knobs in the basement are the Emtek Norwich knobs in french antique so we definetly wanted brass touches in the bathroom. The Emtek Brass robe hooks add just the right amount of shine to the wall by the tub. They are beautiful and very functional.
In small spaces like a bathroom we know it’s the little things that go a long way like the Emtek Brass paper holder in french antique. We had our contractor attach these to the side of the vanity so it’s perfectly tucked away.
For the shower and wall tile we wanted something that had a very subtle color variation and also a hand made quality about it. We went through several samples from the Tile Club and ended up loving their La Riviera Blanc 2.5 x 8 tile. It is a combination of luxe sheen with just the right amount of organic texture. It’s the perfect backdrop to the bold William Morris Pimpernel Wallpaper.
To coordinate with our vanity faucet we sourced the Glenley Pressure Balance Tub & Shower Set from Signature Hardware. The brushed nickel looks so luxe against our tiled shower. And added bonus to this set is that it will keep the water pressure and temperature constant.
We hope you love this space as much as we do! Stepping into it is truly a retreat. Thank you to all of the generous sponsors as well as our contractor Stewart Hess (801.448.5200).
