If any of you are live in or are from Utah you’ve probably heard of Provo. Well my dad has been the mayor of Provo for a little over a year now. He is doing a great job and he is loving every second of it. The only big issue was how blah his office was. The building is very old and it has this wood paneling everywhere. He enlisted my help to spruce it up a little bit.
My first thought when I walked into the room was how brown it was. Brown walls, brown furniture, brown brick and green carpet!
We couldn’t paint the paneling and we had a limited budget. My dad also has very traditional taste which was a bit of a stretch for me. Needless to say this space was a bit of a challenge. We made some very minor changes that I think made a huge impact.
Take a look now!
The space was very very warm with all the browns so I immediately thought to paint the walls blue and bring in blue through the fabric. Blue is one of the best ways to cool a warm room off. The paint is Catalina Coast by Behr. The green carpet was replaced and donated by Carpets America.
I had Erin sew some new pillows for his loveseat. You’ll notice how sad looking the pillows were in the first before picture. I had these done in a Ralph Lauren fabric striped fabric for the front and a coordinating blue fabric for the back.
We had the chairs reupholstered in this blue fabric as well. I also had Erin make some curtains to cover up the ugly brick.
I used the striped Ralph Lauren fabric to upholster the backs of the chairs.
One of my favorite additions to the office are these lamps we got at CSN.
They are Robert Abbey lamps that are usually over $500. But for some reason they are only $93.50 at CSN. Steal!
All in all I would say it was a success. My dad comes to this office pretty much everyday and he deserved a space where he could feel happy and inspired.
You did a great job.
The office now looks cozy, ready to welcome some people in:)
You are such a sweet daughter! It looks so great. The fabrics are my favorite part!
Looks great. I love the blue paint!
It looks so much better- your dad must be thrilled!! The blue fabrics and those lamps are gorgeous. Lovely job! xo
What a great transformation!! And, I am sure he is enjoying it even more as it was done with love by his very own daughter!!
That looks great! I love the color combo. The blue made a huge difference!
Whew…when I was first looking at the before I was thinking yikes…how is she going to fix this! Great job though. You managed to really pull it together so well.
I LOVE the the chairs. I also love that you are able to work with so many different styles.
Very traditional office spaces are often hard to spruce up, but you did a great job!
BTW, I featured your pink pillow post on my blog today. So stop by if you get a chance!
What a difference! I love the way it turned out. And those lamps are so great!
incredible job, it looks perfect!
What a nice thing to do for your Dad.looks so much better.
Way to go, this is terrific and so like how many people have to decorate. They are stuck with a few or many elements and need to incorporate them. You have just shown that it is possible to inject freshness into a stale room with out replacing everything….I'll bet your Dad loves it!
Cathy
Great space! You did an awesome job! Blue is definitely one of my favourite colours to work with 🙂
Oooh great spruce up job. Looks fit for a stylish mayor!!
Kirsten, that is such a neat little fact about you that your dad is the mayor! I'm not from Utah, but I love that I now know a little bit about the town of Provo, because of the amazing world that is the blogging community. 🙂
Oh, and you did a wonderful job!
As we say in Utah County, "Oh my gosh!" You are one talented girl!
Fabulous…it looks so rich and inviting! I am sure your father loves it as well! Great job!
Great makeover! you are so talented…love those pillows!
and how cool about your dad…Alta is one of my all-time fave places!
Oh, I bet your dad just loved having you do that. Fantastic transformation. I LOVE the striped fabric.
Great job! It looks so regal. Don't be surprised if the oval office calls for your services next:)
What a great change! I agree blue is a great color to use just about anywhere. I love the fabrics you chose. I bet your dad brags on you to everyone.
Wow. That looks kind of cool! Almost like an official's office
Haha, so I looked at the pictures first, then posted my comment,…then I read the words…"it looks so official" b/c it is…(smart me) Again, looks really good! Love the after. You're right too, it is a stretch since it's not your design, but I think you pulled it off! Much better than the before's!
Wow! Great job! The finished product is beautiful!
Did your Dad beat Nie Nie's Dad?
It looks great, nice job!
Looks great! Love the new fabrics and the new carpet! Good Job!
gorgeous kristen!!!
You know how I adore blue!
btw, thanks again for featuring my home the other day…it was like my birthday with all those sweet comments. I'm still riding that high! lol!
My family all lives in Provo, Lehi and Highland! I am sure they know your dad! 🙂 Great transformation. You did a good job.
Wow. Major improvement, but still so traditional. How did your dad respond?
WHAT A TRANSFORMATION! I bet your dad loves going to work now. The RL blue fabrics you chose are so beautiful and love the touch of the curtains.
The office looks fantastic!! Great job!
Those chairs are my favorite part…the awesome stripes in the back are just genius…they are kind of like a mullet, business in the front/party in the back, lol!(c:
Wow the after photo looks like it's from a Ralph Lauren catalog! Gorgeous and manly!
the changes you made are great! very patriotic and classic.
i am a new follower and am enjoying your blog! 🙂
Love this! You were able to make such a big impact in the room without breaking the bank…perfect 🙂
Wow, you did such a great job of creating a traditional, yet contemporary space.
Well done! 🙂
It all looks FAB! Very appropriate for your dad but still "stylin!"
What carpet style is that? I like the pattern in it. Can you tells us what it is?
This looks so great, you did an awesome job. And, the fact that you can do a room that's not exactly your favorite personal style, totally proves you've got mad skills woman! LOVE the result, I hope your dad does too! (I'm sure his successors will much appreciate it as well.)
Brilliant transformation! I love posts like these. Thanks!
I admit i am a love of all things blue…a bit to much.
Love what you did! Have to admit, wood paneling tends to really freak me out. It is hard to think past it if you can't paint over it. 5 stars! I bet your dad loves it.
On another note, my favorite movie is Fletch with Chevy Chase…he goes to Provo and that is the only way this TN/AL/TX girl knew where that was.
Funny as our Mayor's office looks just like your dads before office! Love the small but huge impact changes you made
