One Room Challenge- Week 4

When you are designing a room it’s important to think of all the different players in the space and how they compliment each other. When it comes to art there are a few things that you can do to pull off a successful combination that will add a lot to your room!

1 // Consider Scale

Some larger pieces of art do well standing on their own but other smaller and medium pieces really stand out when they are layered with each other. When layering art we also like to use different frames so they can still stand on their own.

2 // Mix it Up

One of the best tips we can give is to mix up the type of art you use. In our Alden home we used a beautiful big landscape over the sectional. In the same space we had a long console table that we needed to put art over. We decided to mix it up and do a photograph instead of another painting. Art can come in so many different mediums. It’s good to use a variety in your spaces.

3 // Pattern Play

Just like mixing patterns with your textiles it’s good to be aware of how you are mixing art pieces together. If you are paring two pieces right by each other you might want one to be more simple and graphic if the other is a little busier.

4 // Consider Color

Be aware of the colors that you are putting together. Make sure nothing clashes or competes with each other. If you are doing a palette that is subtle and soft you don’t want to insert too much bright and bold color.
